Washing wool: A simple guide

We all know by now that wool is great. Wonderfully soft, warm and durable. But how do you actually wash those beautiful woolen Kico items? Don't worry, we have a handy guide for you!

Step 1: Sort

Separate your wool items by color. Light with light, dark with dark.

Step 2: Prewash

Do your woolen products have stains? Then pre-treat them with some mild wool detergent. Let it sit for a few minutes before continuing. Normal detergent contains enzymes that can damage the wool. Therefore, avoid using other detergents!

Step 3: Wash

Washing can be done by hand or on a wool wash program of up to 30 degrees. If you wash by hand, do not soak your products. This damages the fibers.

Fill a bucket with cold or lukewarm water and a little wool detergent. Stir gently. Place your wool items in the bucket and rinse them clean. Then squeeze gently (do not wring!) and rinse well under cold water.

Step 4: Drying

Lay your washed merino wool products flat on a towel to allow the water to drain. Roll up the towel to squeeze out the water. Then lay them flat to dry, away from the sun and heat sources. Do not hang them as they may deform.

It's that simple! Follow these steps and your merino wool will remain soft and beautiful, wash after wash. Enjoy the comfort and warmth, and let your merino wool Kico items last for many years to come!
